Belly Photo – Week 12

leave a comment »

Alright.  I think I need to get Mrs Bean a new pair of boxers…  🙂

According to the internet (and our books), the bean should now be plum-sized, and not quite an ounce in weight.

Week 12 Summary – Mrs Bean has popped!

leave a comment »

Over the weekend, Mrs Bean’s belly ‘popped’ – she has a noticeable bump now!  It’s amazing to think that there is a little baby in there.  Oh, and she can feel the baby every now and then – she says it feels like somebody moving a finger along her insides in a short line.  She continues to be tired and hungry, and appreciates frequent shoulder and neck massages.

We attempted to go maternity clothes shopping this week, but it wasn’t very successful.  I think online shopping may be the way to go…

Midwife Checkup

with 2 comments

We met with our midwife yesterday, and got a chance to hear the baby’s heartbeat again.  This time, every time she found the heartbeat, we’d heat a little thump, and the baby would move away from the doppler wand, like it was annoyed at the intrusion.  She said our baby seemed very active!

I’ll try and post these weekly from now on.  In the meanwhile, these are the belly photos we have so far.  Hrmm.  Maybe I should focus more on the belly in the future, and forget about including her legs…

Week 11 Summary

leave a comment »

This week, we starting telling our more of our friends, and the ones who already knew don’t need to keep it a secret anymore.  We also sent an email to my mom about the pregnancy.  She’s out of the country right now with limited access to a phone and email, so I guess we’ll just wait and see what her reaction is…  We told Mrs Bean’s family a couple weeks ago, and they’re happy and excited.

Mrs Bean’s appetite is still healthy, and she’s been pretty tired.  She hasn’t thrown up yet, although she still feels queasy now and again.  It’s time for her to go shopping for pants – her big pants don’t fit anymore!

One cool thing – on Sunday (April 19), she felt as though there were a worm moving inside her!  Was that the “quickening”?

Week 10 Summary, and our first ultrasound

leave a comment »

I drew a box around the baby’s body and an oval around the head in the picture below. The Bean is 4.4cm long! And we could see the heart beating on the ultrasound (160bpm).

Our first ultrasound (10 weeks and 6 days)

We weren’t planning on getting an ultrasound this early, but some spotting earlier in the week caused some concern, so on our midwife’s advice, we went to the doctor’s office to get this scan so we could make sure that everything was alright inside. Apparently, spotting is not unusual (several friends mentioned it had happened to them) but it sure felt scary! This ultrasound provided some peace of mind, and I’m so glad that everything is normal-looking.

Oh, and before the ultrasound, we had the chance to listen to the baby’s heartbeat on a portable doppler system the midwife brought over when she came to check on Mrs Bean. That was really cool, too. (I like gadgets.)

Week 9: Mrs Bean’s Appetite

leave a comment »

Mrs Bean’s appetite has gone through a big change this week: first of all, the taco cravings have simmered down a bit – hummus and avocado sandwiches from Thundercloud are what she craves now. Plus, she is eating like crazy! More than me, and without feeling full! (Which is amazing!)

Her belly is showing a little, mostly because she was skinny to start with. She’s wearing her ‘big’ pants, or a bella band with her normal pants. She may need to get some loose shirts to wear to work soon.
