Week 15 Summary: Laying Low

leave a comment »

Week 15 was spent laying low – recovering from bleeding, and for me, from my cold.  Mrs Bean’s belly is slowly getting larger, and she says her skin feels tight there.  Her skin is amazing soft and smooth – I love kissing her cheeks, and rubbing her skin – it just feels so good!

At our visit to the midwife, we got to hear the baby’s heartbeat again – apparently the baby is very active.  She could also feel the baby’s head – we tried feeling, but don’t have enough experience to know what to feel for.

Mrs Bean still feels pretty tired.  This worries me a little because we’re heading off on vacation tomorrow.  Sometimes I forget to take rest times when we’re out and about – I want to keep going and going.  I’m going to have to make an effort to ensure we have good breaks in our travels.  At the same time, I think I’d be happy to just lay around (mostly) for the next week or so.  I’m tired!

Week 14 Summary: A trip to the ER

leave a comment »

What a week!  I’m glad we’re on week 15 now, things seem to be calming down, and we’re both on the upswing now.

Last Thursday, Mrs Bean went out to hang with friends, and came back an hour later (escorted by Aunt Bean) – she had suddenly starting bleeding while she was out.  We called the midwife, who told us to monitor the bleeding.  Mrs Bean stayed in bed, getting up only to go to the bathroom.  There wasn’t much bleeding when she stayed in bed, but every time she sat up, the bleeding would start again.  A few hours later, the bleeding hadn’t stopped, so the midwife stopped by.  Mrs Bean’s pulse and blood pressure were okay, and the baby’s heart rate was okay too, so she suspected placenta previa (where the placenta is partially or completely over the cervix), but could not explain why Mrs Bean was feeling pain…so it was off to the ER, to make sure that there wasn’t an abruption in the placenta.

When we got to the ER with the midwife (Illysa), I was surprised at how quiet it was.  We were seen in less than 30 minutes, and our total visit time was less than 4 hours.  Mrs Bean got a urine test, sonograms, and a blood test – everything came back fine, and the ER doc explained to us that it was partial placenta previa, which would hopefully resolve itself during the course of the pregnancy.  Phew!  I wonder how much the ER bill will come out to…

Illysa, however, was pretty concerned about the bleeding and mentioned that we’d probably need to see an OB/GYN if the bleeding didn’t stop soon, that we would be too high-risk for her.  😦  Mrs Bean went to the acupuncturist the next day, which stopped the bleeding pretty quickly, and she’s taking herbs to help her system out.  So far so good…

Meanwhile, I am just starting to emerge from a bad chest cold.  I’m still a little foggy, but I’m glad that I’m now able to attempt to work.  This is going to be a low billable hours month, unfortunately.  Oh well.  I’m optimistic that everything will get better, and that Mrs Bean will be in good shape to travel next week (we’re flying off to Atlanta and Toronto for a vacation).  I’m also hoping that we won’t have another trip to the ER anytime soon.

Week 13 Summary: new clothes and insomnia

leave a comment »

Mrs Bean got some new clothes this week – a nice pair of jeans, a shirt that can be used as a skirt (for now, with leggings), a new bras.  She was bursting out of her old ones.  If her boobs are supposed to get even bigger during breastfeeding…err…uhh…let’s just say that I’m sort of glad I’m not her 🙂

She’s been extra tired this past week, and so have I – I caught a cold.  Hopefully I’m not passing it onto her!  She’s been suffering from  from insomnia, so she’s up about as much as I am these days.  Belly photo to come soon!
