Week 20 Summary: It’s getting hot in here…

leave a comment »

Alright, this post is a little late, since we’re already well into week 21…but, as the title implies, it’s getting hot in here!  It was a record high of 106F yesterday, and when I got into my car, the thermometer read 118F!  We participate in the ‘Power Partner’ program, which allows the energy company to cycle our AC off 10 minutes every 30 minutes between 3pm and 7pm when demand for electricity spikes…not the best idea if there is a pregnant woman in the house!  We may need to discontinue our participation in the program.

Other than being hot, and slightly cranky, Mrs. Bean is doing well.  Her belly continues to grow, and the Bean has figured out how to press on her bladder.

Oh, we ordered our crib this week, as well as a dresser!  Exciting!  They’re going to take a couple weeks to get here, more for the dresser since it is backordered, but soon we’ll be assembling things, and the home office will begin transforming into a baby room.

Midwife check-in: we’re at the halfway point!

leave a comment »

Oh boy oh boy, we passed the 20 week mark two days ago.  So we’re more than halfway there!  (Assuming 40 weeks.)

Everything seems alright: the size of Mrs Bean’s belly is ‘on track’ (20 cm), weight gain (about 15 lbs).  Mrs Bean’s hips have been aching, though, which has meant that she’s been tossing and turning alot at night, trying to find a comfortable position.  It’s a little weird to me to think of her bones shifting and changing…her body is morphing pretty quickly – I wonder what it’ll morph into after the birth.  The body is an amazing system, I’m constantly amazed every time I look at Mrs Bean, and whenever I gaze at her belly and imagine the Bean in there.

Oh, the Bean!  The Bean is moving around, and Mrs Bean says she can feel a poking/kicking now in addition to the tumbles and turns.  I can feel the baby moving about, too, and last night I felt a distinct poke.  If Mrs Bean is wearing her striped nightshirt, you can see the lines on the shirt move as the baby moves.  It’s really cool to be able to feel the baby!  I wonder when I should start playing games with him/her!  🙂

Week 19 Summary: Those toenails are getting hard to reach

leave a comment »

So far so good…We’re almost at the halfway point!  Mrs Bean is hungry most of the time now, and it looks as if she’s somehow swallowed a cantaloupe.  It’s not easy for her to cut her own toenails anymore, and her hips ache when she lies in bed.  Her skin is still incredibly soft, and her hair is still growing like a weed – all in all, I think things are going well.

She’s still spotting a bit, which is a pain, but not scary anymore – the spotting is brown, not red, and in dribbles.  I hope that means her placenta is slowly moving to where it needs to be, and away from where it shouldn’t be (over the cervix).  We’re going to get an ultrasound at week 28 to make sure the placenta is in the right place – our midwife is going to advise against a home birth if the placenta previa is still there.

On the preparing-the-nest front, we’ve started building some registries at local stores.  It’s time for me to start moving stuff out of the home office into my new office.  So much to do!

Week 16 and 17 Summary: vacation and growth

leave a comment »

The past two weeks were spent in Atlanta, Algonquin Provincial Park, and Toronto.  We spent alot of time resting, reading, and EATING.  (There was some hiking and walking, too.  And a short paddle on a canoe.)  Sometime during last week, Mrs Bean’s belly suddenly looked bigger than usual.  She definitely looks pregnant now!

She’s trying not to sleep on her back anymore, but I’ve caught her on her back sometimes…snoring 🙂  I think our next acquisition will be a body pillow.

The larger her belly gets, the more excited and nervous I get.  I also wonder if I should continue to freelance, or if taking a job with same-sex benefits would be a better idea.  Schedule flexibility vs. job security?  Hrmm.

Belly photo coming soon!
