Week 34: Bigger and Heavier

leave a comment »

Mrs Bean weighed in at 152 lbs yesterday, making the total weight gain so far 35 lbs!   Whoa!  She’s gained 30% of her pre-pregnancy weight!  We’re anticipating a 1lb/week gain, which she is not looking forward to.  The extra weight has made it hard to breathe, difficult to pick things up when they get dropped on the floor, and has made sleeping through the night difficult.  Mrs Bean also has a habit of bumping into me with her belly – I don’t think she realizes how far out her belly is projecting!

I’ve been delinquent on posting belly photos…will do that soon

Week 33: Chugging along…

We got a new mattress for ourselves – we figured that if the baby is going to sleep on a nice, organic mattress, we should at least have a mattress that doesn’t sag in the middle!

Mrs Bean’s belly continues to get larger.  It’s leaving her out of breath and waddle-y.  Last night, I think I felt an arm wave back and forth – there was a little nub moving in arcs across her belly.  It was fascinating to watch and feel, but Mrs Bean said it was uncomfortable.  She has awful heartburn, and I’m not allowed to cook foods that may cause gas, since her squished stomach can’t handle the gas bubbles.

Week 32: We’re in Atlanta

leave a comment »

The baby continues to wake Mrs Bean up every morning with hiccups.  She then proceeds to wake me up, “Honey! The baby’s hiccuping again!”  So we all wake up at about the same time.

Mrs Bean had a growth spurt in the last couple weeks.  The midwife measured her uterus as being 3 cm bigger than it was 2 weeks ago.  The Bean has moved over to the left side and is still head down, and we can feel its butt and back along Mrs Bean’s lumpy lumpy belly.

We’re in Atlanta, and the Bean has met Mrs Bean’s other sister and her father.  He/she will get to meet Uncle T Bean in November.  The Bean will also get to taste Ria’s Bluebird pancakes soon!  yum!

What else happened this week?  It was Mrs Bean’s birthday…another year, another cake 🙂  We met with our doula and our birth team is finalized.  When we get home, it’ll be time to order the birth tub and birth kit, and our prenatal classes with our midwife will start.

Counting down…53 days!!!

Week 30 Summary, Week 31 Belly Photo

A late update, since I’ve been out of town, and we’ve had visitors in town…

First of all – we had our baby shower last week at Aunt Bean’s house.  It was really fun, with lots of fabulous people and wonderful food.  It was great to have Mrs Bean’s mom and sister here.  We got lots of great gifts from friends, including some really cute books (e.g. Urban Babies Wear Black).

Second big happening – we celebrated Mrs Bean’s birthday today.  This was also fun, and low-key – we got a 9″ Grandma’s chocolate cake from The Upper Crust (this has become a tradition over the years).

Mrs Bean’s belly at 31 weeks – she’s getting bigger!  She’s experiencing regular Braxton-Hicks contractions, and the baby is hiccuping (little rhythmic jerks), which I find really cute.  Mrs Bean thinks it feels odd.  Mrs Bean feels BIG (she says she feels like a house, I think she’s more like a 1 bedroom condo).  Luckily, it’s starting to cool down here, I think the combination of feeling BIG and being HOT would make for a very grumpy and grumbly Mrs Bean.

I’m excited to meet the baby, I can’t believe there are only about 9 or so weeks left.  I think we’re ready.  Wooohooo….
