Week 39: Waiting

leave a comment »

Today marks the beginning of week 39!  At this point, we’re in “waiting waiting” mode.  Mrs Bean’s contractions are coming more frequently, and are more intense.  The baby is also quite squirmy, although it seems to stick to Mrs Bean’s right side.

I’m amazed that we’re at week 39.  It’s like time just flew by.  It’s amazing to think that the bean could come tomorrow, on its due date, or later.  That life will be so different soon.  When will he/she be ready?  eek!

Week 37 Summary: OMG, we’re going to have a baby!

leave a comment »

We met with our doula, we went to a vaccination talk, we met the midwife this week, and the baby is where it’s supposed to be.  Mrs Bean is going to pick up the starter pack from the diaper service tomorrow after her walk with the mommies.  She has one more day of work.  And then…we wait!

She’s been looking at patterns for making baby slings – apparently, they’re easy to make if you know how to sew.

Also, we realized how few weekends we have left before the baby comes, so we ate out for dinner every night this past weekend.

I think we’re ready.  I think Mrs Bean thinks we’re ready.  Hypothetically.  Are we ready?  Other than still needing a hose to fill the birth tub with, um, I guess we’re ready?

eeks!

Week 36: Super Squirmy!

leave a comment »

This week, the bean has been super squirmy.  It moves all over (seemingly) and I’m amazed at the amount of movement I can see in the belly, as well as amused by the grimaces that show up on Mrs Bean’s face.  I think the bean likes to run his/her feet along the ‘ceiling’ (the bottom of Mrs Bean’s ribcage, and her diaphragm) – after a long active session, the baby rests for awhile before squirming again.  Cute, eh?

Now that we’re at the end of the 36th week, we are officially ‘full-term’, so the baby is free to come anytime between now and 42 weeks.   I can’t wait to meet the baby, so part of me is hoping it’ll come early (shh).

Mrs Bean is tired.  She also feels big.  She actually isn’t terribly large when you compare her to other pregnant women, but she’s definitely larger than she’s ever been before, and it’s not comfortable for her.  Sometimes, she’ll just recline on the sofa and pant.

Mrs Bean has one more week of work!  After that, she’ll remain barefoot and in the kitchen.  bwa ha ha.  Just kidding.

Week 35 Summary: “I feel huge”

with 3 comments

Quotes from Mrs Bean:

“Oh my god, we have 29 days left.  Crazy!”

The midwife is coming tomorrow to the house – our first (scheduled) home visit!  We’re in the middle of childbirth classes with her, which has included birth art, watching videos, and learning about the signs of labour.  This week, we’re going to learn about what we can do if the midwife is late getting here (eeks!)

The bean likes to dance.  No, wait, the bean LOVES to dance!  Mrs Bean doesn’t love it as much as the bean…it’s uncomfortable, and the bean’s favorite spot is a painful part of her ribs.

Some photos of the baby’s room as it looks now:

We got the glider from the big box store – it’s very comfy, but sort of ugly.  It’s covered with a blanket that Mrs Bean made.  The tripp trapp chair on the left is a hand me down, as is the vibrating chair on the right.  Behind the curtain, you can see our printer – it’s wondering what’s going on, and where it’ll go when the baby gets here.

The crib, and a bouncy ball (yoga ball).  Thank you to our lovely friends who gave us the various tidbits you see in the picture.

The dresser is stocked with clothes and some diapers.  Some of the clothes are from Mrs Bean’s childhood, much of it is from Mrs Bean’s mom, and we have some that were shower gifts.  We also stocked up on itsy bitsy clothing at the MamaCents sale a few weeks ago.

The two giant ziplock bags in front contain supplies for the birth – towels, onesies, etc.

A close-up of the stuff on the shelf – this kid will have lots of blankets!!

Week 35!! And it’s October! Where did the time go?

leave a comment »

We just started our 35th week of waiting…it’s amazing that we have around a month left before we meet the bean!

We just received the birth kit in the mail, and are expecting the tub to come tomorrow.  Wowsers.  We’re going to blow up the tub and make sure it fits in the kitchen and that it doesn’t have any leaks.  Maybe I’ll sit in it for a bit and just imagine what the birth will be like.

The bean has been getting bigger and bigger, which means Mrs Bean has been getting bigger and bigger.  It’s amazing to me that she still has room to get bigger – the human body is just incredible!  We’ve started perineal massages/stretches, and Mrs Bean has been watching home birth videos on youtube, sending me selections worth watching.  Eek!  As for me, I’m excited, and anxious.  Nervous about being the sole income earner, and wanting to know the future with more certainty.  I’m sure we’ll both be able to raise this kid well, I just sometimes get overwhelmed by all the possibilities, good and bad.
