Toes and SXSW

with one comment

Kai had a big week – she’s discovered the joys of playing with and sucking her toes.  It’s much easier for her to get at her toes when she is diaper-less, so we’ve been letting her have some naked or almost naked time every day.

Why are you always trying to take my picture?

Mrs Bean has also been taking Kai to concerts this week.  SXSW is happening, which means lots of free outdoor day concerts.  I was able to go out on Friday and hang out.  There were lots of parents there with toddlers and babies, and somebody had set up a little wading pool for the kids to play in.  I’m not sure if she liked the music or not but she did attract some envious glances from hipsters who wished they had her shirt.

I want to be a hipster when I grow up

Oh, the baby Kai sent welcome vibes to last week arrived on March 15th, 2 days after Kai did some bellyrubbing!  Finally, there’s a little girl for Kai to hang out with.  We’ll have to get an updated line-up shot soon.

Four months!

with 2 comments

Kai had her 4 month check-up this week: she’s 25″ long, and weighs 12lbs 2oz.  She’ll be getting her first set of vaccinations at her 6 month check-up.  As a reward, Mrs Bean took her to happy hour where they had beer and pizza.  Just kidding.  It wasn’t a reward, but they did go to happy hour.

Other weekend activities included trying to get baby #5 from our lesbian prenatal group to come out.  The baby is due on March 16th.  Kai spent some time sending welcoming vibes to the baby, and rubbing our friend’s belly.

Come on out and play with me!

We also had a chance to get a line-up photo of babies 1-4 from the group.  Kai is the oldest one, but not the biggest one…Chulti is 2 weeks younger and outweighs her by a good 4 lbs.  The Boys (the twins) are 4 weeks old.

The big kids also got a chance to have tummy time together.

Check it out...

All in all, it was a fun weekend.  Now, if we could only convince Kai that she can sleep on her own (she kicks way too much for it to be easy to sleep with her), that’d be great…trying to change her sleep behavior is our latest project.

This week’s tidbits

with 3 comments

This isn't that bad...

First stroller ride
Kai went  on her first stroller ride – she had fallen asleep on the way to the park, so Mrs Bean decided to try out the snap-n-go.  Kai stayed asleep for 45 minutes!  Woohoo!  She doesn’t need to be against Mrs Bean’s chest in the wrap!  This bodes well, since it’s already pretty warm here.

Confusing old people
We were hanging out at a cafe when an old guy came up to me and complimented us on our lovely child.  When I said “Thank you!”, he looked a bit surprised to hear a female voice come out of me (I’m often sir-ed even though I have boobs.  I think it’s my hair).  He composed himself and talked a bit more, but I could see he was a bit confused.  tee hee.

Headsup
Tummy time is no longer agonizing for Kai.  She tolerates being on her belly but not being able to turn over really frustrates her (sometimes she’ll rock and rock, but she just can’t get there).  She’s okay on her tummy for long periods when she’s videoconferencing, though!

Videoconferencing with Skype

She likes to chat with my brother and sister-in-law up in Canada.  My brother is especially fascinating – he has no hair and must seem like a giant baby to her.

Camouflage
Kai is plotting all sorts of devious things…and being able to blend into her environments will allow her to carry her ideas out…

Can you see me?
