Real Poop
Well, I wasn’t home for this, but Mrs Bean tells me that Kai had a real poop today – and to top it off, she pooped in the toilet! (Mrs Bean thought Kai might need to poop, and tried holding her over the toilet.)
What is real poop? Well, I can’t really say for sure, but I guess it’s poop that isn’t on the liquidy/pasty side. I’m sure I’ll see an example soon…
Roll roll roll
Kai still doesn’t have teeth! I wonder how long those bumps will be there…the suspense! 🙂
These days, Kai’s thing is to roll back and forth. Sometimes she’ll perform a slight rotation, so she can cover additional parts of the floor or bed. She’s meandered under sofas, to the edge of the bed and can manage to roll over in both directions pretty well now. She hasn’t figured out how to sit up, or pull up but she loves being on her feet, too, and can stand/balance upright for a few moments before grasping our hands.
Ahh…I suppose we should savor these last few days or weeks of having a relatively immobile child. At the same time, she is so incredibly frustrated – she wants to crawl and move around so badly, but hasn’t gotten the hang of it just yet. Today, I walked into the bedroom after hearing her cry out in the bedroom – she was on all fours, trying to figure out what to do!
In other news, she’s really liking solid foods. She’s ingested avocado, grapes, sweet potato and bananas. She’s chomped on red and yellow pepper and asparagus. When she sits in her high chair, she’ll bounce up and down when we give her food – it’s incredibly cute.
Teething. Toofing, teefer toofers.
Kai is about to get some teeth! She’s been sucking ice cubes, gnawing on toys, rubbing her tooth nubs with her tongue and complaining loudly about the pain. She’s also rolling over really well now, able to spin on her belly, and pushing up onto (almost) her arms and legs. I bet she’ll be crawling soon.
This is amazing to watch, but at the same time it makes me a bit wistful – she’s growing up so quickly!
Luckily, there are some things that will take her mind off of her gums…like swimming. She loves the water, and goes to the pool or a friend’s wading pool a couple times a week. She like to flirt with lifeguards, and loves to splash. She also likes it when I throw blocks in the air and drop them while saying Ooops!
Sleep is still a tough issue for us. Kai likes to eat every 1.5 hours or so at night so Mrs Bean doesn’t get to sleep very soundly. Kai would also prefer to be on the boob the whole night, and complains when she’s taken off. Me, I hear most of this, but I’m developing the ability to not wake up all the way when it happens. Mrs Bean and I are generally a bit tired, her more so than me. Kai, on the other hand, wakes up smiling. Even with a 5 minute power nap. Sigh.
Legally Kai’s Mama
Kai officially has two parents now! We went before the judge earlier this week – she signed the papers and made it legal. Kai flirted with the judge and the other families that were there, and smiled for the camera. All in all, it was a quick and easy finish to a long and task-filled process. Woohoo!
Next up: getting her registered with social security, and getting a passport! And a library card!
