the need for speed

with 2 comments

at the kiddie car show

Well, Kai isn’t driving yet, or even pedaling.  She does enjoy getting in and out of  vehicles – like other kids’ cars, cardboard boxes and her dump truck.  We had a really great cardboard box (just the right size!) that she used as her boat for “Row Row Row Your Boat” but we left it at a birthday party, so now we’re using a smaller sleeker box as her boat.  It’s not as fun since she can’t grab onto the sides and rock the boat herself, but it’s definitely easier for her to get in and out of.

In other speed news, she’s a zippy little walker now!  She loves to go the distance – today she pulled me out of the grocery store, past the playground (she definitely knows how to find this playground) onto the half-mile walking trail.  She walked most of it before asking to be carried.  I remember thinking that if we did this once a week, she’d do a kiddie version of a marathon in about a year!  I wonder when she’ll start running…

(oh, and we didn’t really go to a kiddie car show – that was a birthday party where they had everybody bring a vehicle…we brought our cardboard box boat)

A budding obsession with dental hygiene?

with one comment

A selection of toothbrushes

Kai loves toothbrushes.  The picture above shows 2 of her toothbrushes and 2 of our that are now hers due to her not-very-hygienic toothbrush play.  In addition to those 4 toothbrushes, she’s got one hanging out in the living room and another hanging out on a shelf.  She loves to carry them around, chew on them, stand around holding them.

When she’s taking a bath, if there are toothbrushes in her line of sight, she’ll grunt and point at them until they’re in her hands.  Hiding them while she’s watching doesn’t help since she doesn’t seem to have any sort of object impermanence.  Sigh.

Another bathroom item she loves to possess is our tube of toothpaste.  She’ll attempt to chew on it, she loves to touch the cap and gaze at the logo.  She’ll also tap the blue text (ingredients list and warnings) and babble.

I wonder what will come of this, if anything.  Is this just some sort of baby obsession or is it an indicator of things to come?  (what sorts of things, I’m not sure)

10 things

with one comment

Okey dokey – we were tagged by Next in Line to list 10 things about Kai that blog readers wouldn’t know.  Alright, let’s see…

  1. Kai loves to meow (“mau….”) and enjoys hunting for cats in the neighborhood.
  2. She loves to eat basil off our neighbor’s plant.
  3. She loves to stand in front of the open refrigerator and gaze at all the food.  She’ll touch various things and will murmur “mmmmmmmm”.
  4. She laughs at Mama’s (my) boobs.  They are obviously silly for not having milk.  She does like to look at them every now and then.
  5. She likes to climb into her baby doll’s cradle (see evidence below).  This is ironic because she never slept in her own.  She will also drag at least one of her dolls into the cradle with her and proceed to point out the different parts of the baby’s face.
  6. She likes to check on our neighborhood chickens.  She talks back to them when they talk to her.
  7. She expects to eat every time she gets in her car seat.
  8. She knows how to browse through photos on an iphone.  She loves to look at pictures – on the phone, on the laptop and printed photos.
  9. I am slowly teaching her random bits of Chinese.
  10. Kai enjoys a popsicle in the bathtub most evenings after dinner.  Blended strawberry and french vanilla yogurt on craft sticks.
  11. Oooh, another one: she likes to squeeze your nose, especially if you honk when she does it.  Then she’ll laugh herself silly when you honk her nose.

Look at this doll's eye! Yen jing!
