Our old home
Yesterday, as I strapped Kai into her carseat she mentioned wanting to do something that we used to do in Austin. I don’t even remember now what she was talking about but I told her that we couldn’t do it – that was Austin and we’re not there anymore.
She looked at me, her lower lip trembling…her eyes filled with tears and she started bawling “I miss Austin! I miss my home!”
That makes me so sad.
Age of hilarity
Kai: want to hear a silly song?
Me: yes!
Kai: la la la la (doubles over laughing)
Avi thinks Kai is Hilarious. It’s so cute to see them hug each other and kiss each other.
Avi has recently cut his two front lower teeth. Toothless wonder no longer!
The kids, a visual update
I have so many photos from the past couple months, it was a little overwhelming to try and go through all of them…so here’s a selection from the latest import from my phone.
Happy new year!
Update on our family – we’ve finished our move to Atlanta. We moved semi-abruptly on Thanksgiving day in order to get to Atlanta as quickly as we could since Mrs Bean’s dad wasn’t doing well. We flew in while our stuff got trucked and thank goodness there is a garage here – we’re still unpacking while packing up the items in the house to make space for our things. Sadly, Mrs Bean’s dad died in early December so we’re just…trying to deal. Note to self (and others who might be listening) – keep things tidy so our kids won’t have to deal with our mess.
Kai is starting at her new school in 2 days. She’s not great with transitions so we’re hoping it’ll go well. She has also asked for me to find her a music class with frozen yogurt nearby – that’s what she had in Austin so I guess she’s missing her routine.
Avi is starting to figure out how to crawl, he generates massive amounts of drool and is quite the charmer – he smiles at almost everybody. He’s our giant baby – 16.5 lbs already!
We also have another addition – Mrs Bean’s 16 year old sister. Anybody have tips on raising teenagers??
Next up, some photos…
Moving to a new city
We’re moving. Mrs Bean’s dad is sick so we’re heading to Atlanta next week. Mrs Bean’s mom died last year and her teenaged sister will need company and support. Mrs Bean’s sister is also planning on moving from SF. A convergence! Originally we’d planned for a mid-December move but his health has taken a turn so we’re moving earlier. We’re going to miss our friends and family and our routines and favorite places in Austin but I’m sure we’ll find new ones in Atlanta.
We broke the news to Kai just before Halloween that we were going to move and she’s had alot of questions and comments:
- “but i want to sleep in my room”
- “but i want yeye to come to my house”
- “i worried about yeye nervous for yeye”
She also asked if yeye would still be sick when we go next week. Mrs Bean said yes, and Kai asked if we could get him a new body 🙂
Kai is not the greatest with transition so we’re expecting the next couple months to be a tough time. At the same time she may surprise us all – she’s recently become much better with changes and new people. This has corresponded with her becoming even more verbal and being able to express her feelings and desires very very specifically. Avi, on the other hand, is preoccupied with drooling and trying to scoot.
Maybe after we’re done in Atlanta we’ll head to Canada 🙂 Might as well keep moving north, eh?
tap tap tap
We’re still around, just busy. 🙂
I keep meaning to post, Kai or Avi will do something and I’ll think ‘I should post this – it’ll be great to be able to remember and share the moment’. But then I get on the sofa or sucked onto another subject (for example, bags…Mrs Bean and I love bags) and then poof! Time for bed!
I finally got around to getting photos off my phone and onto my hard drive…I’ll try and post some favorites soon…
